Charlie Leads Charge For Carnival Closer

Gun Group winning sprinter Charlie Boy and Blake Shinn will try and replicate their terrific last start victory when they contest Saturday’s Group 3 Hallmark Stakes over 1200m at Royal Randwick

With Saturday’s All Aged Stakes Day closing the lucrative 2016 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, Triple Crown connections are represented by three proven runners at Royal Randwick.

Fresh off a rails run triumph in the Group 3 Liverpool Stakes (1300m) at Randwick on February 22, Charlie Boy and top jockey Blake Shinn partner again in the Group 3 Hallmark Stakes (1200m). The five-year-old son of Myboycharlie has come through his last stakes win in excellent order and according to Peter and Paul Snowden, he is “in great form and been working very well at home”.

While he carries top weight (58.5kg) in what looks to be a competitive field, we should be in for an exciting finish.

Smart three-year-old filly Brigadoon Rise lines up for her third run this preparation in the $150,000 Group 3 JHB Carr Stakes (1400m). Team Snowden believe the soft 5 rated-track and distance shouldn’t be a problem for the daughter of Stratum who put in a strong piece of fast work earlier this week.

“Brigadoon Rise should acquit herself well and it’s worth noting that Kerrin McEvoy was disappointed he wasn’t available to ride due to a previous commitment.

“She presents a nice each way chance,” said Peter Snowden.

Triple Crown stablemate Denpurr also lines up in the same race with Sam Clipperton aboard. Unfortunately the soft track won’t play to her advantage however the stable are most pleased with how she’s been working at home (which is not unusual), although would be much more confident with her chances on a firmer surface.
