Gold Symphony chasing back-to-back Civic Stakes triumphs

A SPECTACULAR run in this very race 12 months ago saw Gold Symphony come away victorious in the Listed Civic Stakes after he produced a surging run on the outside to beat The Monstar at Rosehill Gardens.

And the dual Group 3 winner is back for more after a running-on performance in the Listed June Stakes over an inadequate trip of 1100m a fortnight ago.

The leading son of Reward For Effort steps up to 1350m for Saturday’s assignment, and is bidding to become Triple Crown’s sixth individual Stakes winner for the season.

Drawn in barrier 17 does not provide Gold Symphony with any favours, and he’ll have to circumnavigate the field under Adam Hyeronimus in the feature race on the card.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden has been encouraged by his work, but acknowledges the task he faces from the wide draw.

“I’m really happy with the horse,” said Snowden. “He’s come back in great order and his first up run was very encouraging.

“The draw is a shocker and he’ll have his work cut out from there, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he runs a really tidy race as he’s going really well.
