Hall Mark success opens new doors for Redzel
GROUP 1 success is the ultimate goal for Triple Crown’s Redzel after blowing away the field to convincingly win the Group 3 TAB Hall Mark Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
In stepping up to 1200m for just the second time in his career, Redzel emphatically answered questions as to whether he could see out the step up in trip, opening up several possibilities for the in-form son of Snitzel, with the $10 million The Everest a possible spring target should the opportunity emerge.
The victory took Triple Crown’s haul of Group-race wins to 19 since 2010, far in excess of their nearest rival syndicator with 11 Group-race wins.
Co-trainer Peter Snowden said: “There’s no better for a horse’s confidence than winning and he’s doing that well now. He’s about 60 to 70kg heavier than he used to be as a three-year-old. He’s really developed.
“He almost won a Group 1, got beaten a half head a month ago so I don’t see a Group 1 being out of reach,” he added.
With Redzel proving 1200m to be no issue, Triple Crown’s Chris Ward outlined that several doors had now been opened for the four-year-old, although no concrete plans were in place.
“He deserved to be favourite for the Hall Mark, especially after his two runs this time in,” said Ward. “The only query was the extra distance, but he handled it well.
“Redzel has shown he can compete with the best sprinters around and has plenty of options going forward,” Ward adds. “There is a possibility he could head to Brisbane for a race like the [Group One] Doomben 10,000 and we might even consider the [$10 million] Everest in October.”
