Impressive runners see Pierro edge closer to title
A 2YO Triple Crown winner and World Champion Racehorse, Pierro is now translating his undeniable talent on the track to the stud farm, with the last week providing more flashes of his talented progeny. The performances gave further indication that now is the time to become involved with his progeny, with Pierro making bold claims that he is set to be an undeniable success at stud.
Pierro leads the first-season sire charts by a healthy margin from Your Song, prompting high demand for his progeny at the sales.
Already the sire of the brilliant Group 3 Magic Night Stakes winner and Golden Slipper third placegetter Tulip, as well as recent Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce third placegetter Pierata, the son of Lonhro has gained two more eyecatchers over the last days, with impressive Ballarat winner Levendi and Pierro’s most expensive yearling Plato, who turned heads at a recent jumpout at Caulfield on June 6.
The Peter Gelagotis-trained Levendi scored easily by all of two and three quarter lengths in the Maiden 2YO Plate over 1200m. The two-year-old colt was a $140,000 purchase for Gelagotis, who will now be prepared for a spring campaign targeting valuable prizes.
“He’s a classy colt,” said stable representative Manny Gelagotis in the aftermath of the race. “He trialled exceptionally well at Cranbourne and presented like a professional today.
“He’s a horse that keeps improving and he’s got a massive future. He’s a high-class horse in the making and I think we will see a really good colt in the spring.”
Meanwhile Plato, a $1.5 million yearling purchase for Coolmore, who stand Pierro, was explosive in his 650m jumpout at Caulfield, and certainly looks one who may well repay his hefty fee and more.
The Mick Price-trained colt is a half-brother to Golden Slipper winner Vancouver.
