Lonhro five-year-old Mecir became the 43rd Stakes winner for his sire, storming home to win the G3 Newmarket Handicap over 1400m at Newcastle, March 19.

After settling towards the rear of the field, Mecir gained a lovely trail in to the race on the back of his paternal half-brother Pinwheel. He peeled off the million-dollar earner’s back at the 200m mark, hitting the lead in the closing stages and recording a most impressive win.

Bred by Ramsey Pastoral, Mecir is the first foal out of G1-placed Al Akbar mare Magistra Delecta.

Lonhro is now the sire of six Group 1 winners including Darley stallions Denman and Benfica.
