Peggy Jean On Song for $1m Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes

A sensational run by Triple Crown’s Peggy Jean (Myboycharlie ex Lady of Love) in Saturday’s Group 2 Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill saw the filly produce a storming run from the tail of the field on a heavy going track, only to miss out on first place by the narrowest of margins.

With Blake Shinn on board the Gerald Ryan trained filly was then held up for a run early in the straight, however when finally presented with daylight she displayed that quality turn of foot which won her the Listed Inglis Classic race in January and made away from the field.

The heavy track took its toll in the very final stages of the trip and first up fitness peaked with about 50m to the line, presenting Sebring filly Bring Me The Maid with a winning opportunity. Peggy Jean held on for second place and earned her Triple Crown owners $35,000 prizemoney for her terrific effort as well as significantly increasing her residual value. This paled however in comparison to the excitement generated by the run.

“This is what racing is all about” exclaimed one owner as the group revelled in the adrenalin rush of the race.

The run holds Peggy Jean in great stead for a two week back up in to the $1m Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes which has always been the filly’s main target.

“She’s a tough filly and has come through the run well so is right on track for the Sires” commented Michael Ward of Triple Crown.

The thrilling ride continues for the Peggy Jean’s owners who are now looking forward to experiencing racing at the highest level when she steps out on day one of the inaugural Championships on April 12.

“We can’t wait to see her with the improvement of that first run under her belt and competing at Group 1 level on the first day of The ChampionshipsWard continued.
