Ruby reels them in for thrilling maiden victory
THREE-YEAR-OLD filly Reelem In Ruby scored her first career win at the second time of asking when producing a thrilling turn of foot to win the Maiden Handicap over 1200m at Canterbury on Friday.
By the Champion First-Season Sire Pierro, Reelem In Ruby was unlucky when going down a one and a half length second to Bubbles N Troubles on debut, a race which proved a good form reference heading into this assignment, her first as a three-year-old.

And she duly delivered as the £2.70 favourite, with Josh Parr producing her for a run down the outside to get up by a nose. Off a fast early tempo, Ruby settled in midfield and had the best part of seven lengths to make up entering the straight, but when given clear air she rattled home and held off the late run of River Bird in a three-way-go for the line.
Victory sees her owners collect a winners’ cheque of $22,000, as well as a valuable BOBS Bonus injection up to $19,250, which can be doubled up for the purpose of further purchases in the racing industry.
Congratulations to her owners on a fine success – an exciting preparation in store for this talented filly!
