Ryan Runners Attract Big Betting in Sires
By Neale Donnelley
Punters haven’t waited for a confirmed track condition at Royal Randwick on Saturday and have launched into two of Gerald Ryan’s Sires Produce runners.
Ryan has an amazing four of the 11 runners in the Group 1 $1 million Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) on Saturday and two of them – Believe Yourself and Peggy Jean – have both had serious backing since fixed-odds markets opened yesterday.
Believe Yourself, going into the Sires off the back of a stunning fourth in last week’s Golden Slipper Stakes, has firmed from $4.60 into $3.80, while Peggy Jean has been $6.00 into 4.20.
Time For War, one of Ryan’s other runners, unbeaten in two starts, has also attracted specking, firming from $11 into $8.
The Darley-owned and Peter Snowden-trained Kumaon has been $8 into $6, and David Hayes’ Zululand, fresh from his impressive win in the Group 2 $220,000 VRC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Flemington, has firmed from $15 into $11, so punters have many and varied opinions on the $1 million affair for the two-year-olds.
