Smartedge heads impressive Randwick trialists

A PAIR of impressive juveniles stepped out at Randwick barrier trials on Friday morning, with Smartedge cruising to take Heat 10 by half a length and Your Song colt Brave Song catching the eye when finishing well to take second in Heat 4.

Smartedge, a son of Champion First-Season Sire Smart Missile, showed excellent gate speed as the barriers opened, and traveled wide the trip before looming up on the bridle to take a comfortable win in the 735m trial.

Earlier in the morning, Brave Song continued his excellent improvement with a fine second behind Godolphin runner Marble.

Held up at the back of the nine-runner event, Brave Song ran home strongly behind the winner to finish in second, a length ahead of third place Gracefilly, with the time of the trial being particularly impressive.

Two further Triple Crown runners returned to the trials at the start of their preparations, with Onslaught, a winner of his last two starts, not knocked around in Heat 6, and three-year-old filly She’s Demanding running an encouraging trial to finish third in Heat 5.

We look forward to seeing the exciting preparations ahead of these four, with career debuts not far away for both Smartedge and Brave Song.
