Triple Crown Celebrate Dual State Winning Double
Off the back of Charlie Boy’s Group 3 Liverpool City Cup win at Royal Randwick the Saturday prior, two Triple Crown representatives were sent out in their respective races to record a second round of emphatic wins for their connections.
First to go was red hot Redzel in the Listed Fireball Stakes. He was third-up and rock hard fit off the back of a particularly solid performance at Royal Randwick in the Spark Of Life Handicap where he was nabbed on the line by Rock Sturdy. From barrier five, Hugh Bowman rode Redzel out of the gates aggressively to lead the field and put the pressure on early. Succeeding in bringing his competitors out of their comfort zones with his blistering pace, Redzel proceeded his dominant run over the 1100m race to stave off Takedown and win the race by 0.3 of a length.
Soon after Redzel’s breakthrough stakes-win we had fellow 3yo Secret Trail (pictured) lining up to race in Doomben. She was second-up and ‘back to the scene of the crime’ in Saturday’s $100,000 QTIS Bonus 3yo race – she won the $100,000 QTIS Bonus 2yo race last year, the equivalent of Saturday’s race for 2yo’s. She was sent out the firm favourite and managed a smooth run in transit under jockey Jim Byrne to kick away and win the race by three-quarters of a length.
Both Redzel and Secret Trail had a big group of owners present at their respective tracks cheering them on and celebrating their wins, which at the end of the day is what it’s all about. It’s very satisfying for the team at Triple Crown when plans like this come off!
Congratulations to all connections of Redzel and Secret Trail, especially to trainers Peter and Paul Snowden for having them both perfectly on song for their targets.
