Winning Double For Triple Crown

It was a red letter day for Triple Crown Syndications and their owners as their winning run continued at Canterbury and Newcastle on Saturday.

Stakes winner Redzel returned for a first-up assignment in the July Sprint, the feature race of the day at a rare Saturday meeting at Canterbury. There is only one way to ride Redzel and that is to use his greatest asset – SPEED.  He certainly scorched the turf over the 1100m, leading all the way from the barrier to the winning post in what was a stunning display of speed across the heavy track. It was a daring yet perfect ride by Kerrin McEvoy who knew it was going to take a big performance especially given he would have to contend with a strong headwind down the back straight along the way. However the pre-race instructions were crystal clear from Peter & Paul Snowden and Kerrin executed them precisely. Redzel put on the display of the day full of speed, toughness and sheer determination to win by 0.8 lengths on the line and 5.1 lengths back to 3rd place. Redzel and Kerrin were greeted upon return to the enclosure by a very happy and ‘loud’ group of owners celebrating as they should. The Canterbury crowd certainly knew the team in red were on track!

Earlier in the day, Triple Crown were setting milestones with first starter Bukzel. The 2yo filly was on debut on a heavy track and up against the older horses but her class shone through over the 1150m when she scored an impressive win to start her career in the perfect manner. This victory also brought up her sire Snitzel’s 3oth 2yo winner for the season equalling Without Fears record for most 2yo winners in a season. Bukzel bounced from the gates and found a nice forward position sitting outside the leader before displaying a nice turn-of-foot in the straight. However she showed her race inexperience over the final furlong as she ducked and weaved her way home and making young apprentice Nick Heywood earn his riding fees. Peter Snowden was very pleased with the winning debut and noted that she still has plenty to learn and therefore improvement to come, so her future is looking bright.
