Bendigo > Canterbury > Caulfield: An owner’s mission to see all three of his horses in under 26hrs

OWNERS can go to great lengths to see their horses race. Quite often they are a pride and joy and the emotion of seeing your racehorse cross the line with its nose in front is unlike any other.

But one Triple Crown owner is really sticking his neck out this weekend to be there to ride home his horses, as he embarks on a mission to see all three gallopers he owns with Triple Crown in just under 26 hours, taking on three interstate flights in the process.

Queensland resident Ray Nicholson is part of the ownership of Invincible Lad who races in the first at Bendigo at 1pm on Friday, before he dashes off for the trickiest part of his 3,000km round trip by jetting on a plane to Sydney to watch Moss Trip in the first at Canterbury at 6.15pm, a turnaround of five hours.

After which Nicholson will thoroughly deserve a few beers, (hopefully with the taste of victory!) before flying back to Melbourne on Saturday morning to watch three-year-old filly Wooshka in the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes at Caulfield.

“It’s a slightly mad idea,” says Real Estate Agent Nicholson. “I knew that there was the potential clash this Friday with Invincible Lad and Moss Trip racing in different states and with Wooshka at Cauflield on Saturday I was almost settled for a weekend in Melbourne.

“But then I started looking into the logistics and it became apparent that this was doable.

“I think I’ll just have time to grab the photo with Invincible Lad and hop straight in the car to catch a flight to Sydney to watch Moss Trip!

“Hopefully things will be a bit more relaxed to get back to Melbourne to see Wooshka in the Group 3, which will be an exciting moment and it’ll be an unforgettable treble if we can pull it off! But I’m just happy to watch them race and if we get one winner I’ll be delighted!”

Best of luck Ray with your weekend travels, and fingers crossed we’ll be celebrating at the end!
