Charlie Boy has confirmed a trip to Melbourne for the Group 3 Bobby Lewis Quality (1200m) after a strong track gallop at Rosehill Gardens on Tuesday morning.
The talented four-year-old has been off the scene for close to 12 months and trainer Gerald Ryan is delighted with his condition.
“He looks terrific and off his work this morning I would expect him to run quite well on Saturday,” Ryan said.
“Given he has had a fair bit of time off, he might be a little suspect at the end of 1200m but I’m happy.”
Charlie Boy won the Group 2 Danehill Stakes at the corresponding meeting first-up last year before finishing fourth in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude and seventh behind Long John in the Caulfield Guineas.
He was set to contest the Magic Millions Guineas for three-year-olds in January but had a slight set-back and missed the autumn carnival.
Charlie Boy worked with speedy mare Runway Star, who is nominated for the Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
