Charlie Boy to the Gold Coast

By Brent Zerafa

Gerald Ryan will run Charlie Boy first-up in the $1 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) following a barrier trial win at Rosehill Gardens on Tuesday morning.

The Group 2 Danehill Stakes winner won his 900m heat in a time of 54.4 seconds, coming from back in the field under a tight hold from jockey Nash Rawiller.

Ryan indicated Charlie Boy will trial again at Warwick Farm on Friday week before heading to the Gold Coast for the feature three-year-old race on January 11.

“Both his wins have been first-up on the back of two barrier trials,” Ryan said.

“He was able to win first-up down the straight over 1200m and he only had three weeks off after his run in the Caulfield Guineas.

“Fitness won’t be an issue with him.”

With Nash Rawiller out suspended, Ryan and connections are yet to confirm who will ride Charlie Boy at the Gold Coast.
