Crown of Ascot Salutes
Joe Pride trained runner Crown of Ascot (Flying Spur ex Detail) won the Pipe King Class 1 Handicap very confidently on Thursday, taking home $12,250 for his owners.
After two starts for two second places this preparation a win was knocking on the door for the Triple Crown Syndications runner, and that is exactly what he delivered when lining up for the 1200m race at Wyong.
Top jockey Tommy Berry, who will be riding at Hong Kong’s International Meeting this weekend, piloted Crown of Ascot beautifully and expertly dictated the tempo of the race to give the six year old gelding a perfect run.
Crown of Ascot let down and showed a good turn of foot in the home straight with Berry commenting “every time he was put under pressure he picked up underneath me”.
Pride was thrilled with the win, “Crown of Ascot was courageous and it was good to get him back in the winner’s circle” he commented post-race.
After coming through the race well Crown of Ascot will now most likely head to the Canterbury night meeting on Friday, 13 December 2013.
Congratulations to all connections!
