Doomben 10,000 favourite Mazu excels

Doomben 10,000 favourite MAZU remains bang on track for his Queensland mission after a comfortable trial win on Monday while key rival Big Parade produced a head scratching display at Randwick.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Mazu was the first of the two Group One contenders to step out on the morning and the recent Group Two Arrowfield 3YO Sprint winner picked up where he left off.

Mazu, a winner of all four starts in the autumn, was an easy winner of his 1045m heat after being produced at the top of the straight by in-form jockey Sam Clipperton.

The son of Maurice claimed the heat by an easy 1-1/2 lengths from stablemate Signore Fox, clocking 1:05.10 seconds (last 600m in 35.92) for the gallop.

Snowden Racing will send their three-year-old weapon north for Saturday week’s 10,000 at Doomben where he is currently the $3.50 favourite with TAB.
