Dothraki chases back-to-back Group 2 wins
STALWART Dothraki is chasing back-to-back Group 2 wins when he takes on the Gilgai Stakes over 1200m at Flemington on Saturday.
The five-time Group-race winner struck for a maiden Group 2 success last time out in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Stakes down the famous straight, and looks to repeat that winning form over the same course and distance.
Victory in the Gilgai would take career earnings for Dothraki through the $1.5 Million mark.
Although having turned eight in August, Dothraki continues to defy the odds, winning at Group level twice through 2018 having won in the stewards’ room in the Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes.
He faces nine rivals on Saturday following the scratching of early race favourite Osborne Bulls, and has the services of Hugh Bowman, who will be fresh from riding Champion racehorse Winx in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes the race prior.
Co-trainer Peter Snowden said: “He goes there with a good chance on Saturday. He’s drawn in the right part of the track.
“It’s a fairly similar field to what he met last time but he’s shown a real liking for the 1200m down the straight and that can be real advantage.
“He’s done well since his last start and goes there in fine form.”
Best of luck to the owners of Dothraki and to Snowden Racing!
