Fifth Stakes placing for Missile Mantra

Talented mare MISSILE MANTRA produced another gutsy effort at Caulfield on Saturday, finishing a gallant second in the Listed Anniversary Vase to record her fifth placing at Stakes level.

The daughter of Smart Missile let down strongly in the final 200m to snatch second from dual Listed winner Riddle Me That, but failed to reel in Tasmanian raider Still A Star, who enjoyed a dream run up the rail.

Missile Mantra lost nothing in defeat and added further black-type to her impressive CV, which already included a Group 3 win and Group 1 placing. Saturday’s result was her fifth placing at Stakes level, though she has also recorded a pair of fourth-place finishes at Group 3 level.

It was certainly no disgrace being beaten by a multiple Stakes winner who has only finished outside the top two in one of her 16 career starts, and we look forward to seeing what the rest of the preparation has in store for Missile Mantra.

She is likely to head north of the border for her next start, which is set to be in either the Listed Scone Cup or Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic at Scone on Friday 14th May.
