Fillies to the fore in Randwick’s major races

A pair of fillies are set to represent Triple Crown in top quality races at Randwick on Saturday, with Missile Mantra lining up in the Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m) and Reelem In Ruby taking her chance in the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m).

Both are stepping out for the second time this preparation and both have taken improvement from their comeback runs. Combined with a better track, more suitable distance and slightly more favourable draws, both fillies should give a good account of themselves in what look to be strong fields – which should come as no surprise given the time of year!

The Surround Stakes in particular looks to be a vintage renewal with 4 Group 1 winners in the field. Missile Mantra came within a whisker of Group 1 glory last prep and although she is ultimately looking to get out over more ground later this prep, she is fully deserving of her place in what many good judges are calling the best Surround Stakes for some time.

Reelem In Ruby has worked beautifully since her first-up effort in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes. Circumstances on the day meant that she found herself too far back last-start and she is already a Group 2 winner, having led home her Triple Crown stablemate Moss Trip in the Hot Danish Stakes back in November.

Fingers crossed both fillies can make their presence felt en route to further Group 1 targets later in the Autumn!
