There’s no questioning the heart of Firm Agreement, who produced another impressive performance on Saturday to finish second in the Group 1 Australian Derby at Royal Randwick.
Facing the 2400m trip for the first time and doing so just four days after his astonishing runner-up finish in the rescheduled Group 2 Tulloch Stakes last Tuesday, the rising star proved once again he’s the real deal. While Aeliana was too strong on the day, Firm Agreement lost no admirers with a run full of class and determination in just his second racing preparation.
“We are so proud of him. Firm Agreement has a really tough constitution and an outstanding turn-of-foot which sets him up for a bright future. What he has achieved in just two racing preps is quite incredible. We are particularly thrilled for his owners.” Chris Ward
This latest Group 1 placing adds to an already impressive resume for the Triple Crown gelding, who also placed in the Group 1 Champion Stakes over 2000m in his first racing preparation.
Credit also goes to jockey Tyler Schiller, who gave Firm Agreement an excellent ride, navigating the Derby with confidence and composure. Trainers Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald have since reported that the gelding has pulled up in terrific order, with all signs now indicating a strong tilt at the Group 1 Queensland Derby on May 31st when he aims to provide his owners with the ultimate life experience.
With a few tough performances now on the board, Firm Agreement is quickly marking himself as one to watch closely. The Triple Crown team are proud to be part of his journey and can’t wait to see what’s next as he sets his sights on Brisbane.
