Group 2 winner Charlie Boy retires
GROUP 2 winner Charlie Boy has retired from racing after an illustrious career in which he collected $907,175 for his owners.
A Golden Slipper runner as a juvenile, the leading son of Myboycharlie went on to contest the Group 1 pair of the Sires Produce and Champagne Stakes over a mile as a two-year-old, before returning on his first start as a three-year-old to win the Group 2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington over 1200m, the highest achievement of his career.
Further Group-race success came in the BRC Sprint at Doomben and the Liverpool City Cup at Randwick – both at Group 3 level, as Charlie Boy struck for five wins during his long and successful time on the racecourse.
A win at Group 1 level was so nearly forthcoming, as Charlie went down just a neck to Boban in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 in May 2015.
A consistent horse at the highest level for many years, Charlie was again placed in the Doomben 10,000 in 2016, among six placings at Stakes level.
A terrific servant to his owners and the Triple Crown silks during his career, we wish the very best to a now eight-year-old Charlie in retirement, with one of his adorning owners having taken him on to see out the remainder of his years.
