‘A lifelong dream’ comes true for weatherman Bailey
HE brings colour to the weather reports and now renowned weatherman Tim Bailey will hope his filly Moss Trip can light up Randwick on Saturday as she contests the Group 1 Surround Stakes over 1400m.
Talking to Andrew Bensley on Sky Sports Radio’s Racing HQ, Bailey said it is a lifelong dream come true to have a runner in the Group 1 on Saturday.
“It really is a great thrill [to have a runner a Group 1],” said Bailey. “In over 25 years of racing thoroughbreds I know how difficult it is to have a runner in a Group 1.
“She’s a beautiful flying little filly, and I’d like to tip my hat to Triple Crown. They are a fantastic organization. Brilliant system and brilliant people. I’ve seen it first hand and they’ve made a lifetime dream of mine come true.
“My wife bought me a horse for Christmas – she was shopping around in November – and there aren’t many horses around in November!
“Unfortunately a lady had to drop out of Moss Trip and in November last year my wife hooked up a 5% share in Moss Trip and I got the best Christmas present – the Christmas present that just keeps on giving!
“Peter Snowden said to us on Friday that we’re only going to the Group 1 half a million dollar Surround if it rains. With nominations on Monday, the weatherman who has a share in Moss Trip makes it rains on Sunday with the wettest 24 hours in Sydney all year!
“There’s two Group 1s on Saturday, Winx is in one of them, and Moss Trip is in the other! Can you believe it!”
