Mazu makes it four in a row with dominant Listed win

Triple Crown’s classy three-year-old MAZU produced arguably his most impressive performance to date when cruising to a 2.8L success in the Listed Darby Munro Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

The son of Maurice was conceding weight to all of his rivals but barely had to get out of second gear to defeat last-start Listed winner Bacchanalia, with three time winner Smirnova a further length adrift in third.

Mazu has now won four races in a row and continues to go from strength to strength, with Saturday’s success his third at Stakes level and fifth overall from just nine starts.

A $180,000 purchase by Chris & Michael Ward from the Parsons Creek draft at the Inglis Classic Sale, Mazu has now won $461,350 in prizemoney and will head to the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint for his next assignment.

The $1 million contest is held at Royal Randwick on Day 2 of The Championships and has been won by the likes of subsequent Group 1 winner Wild Ruler and Everest hero Classique Legend in recent years.

Triple Crown’s Hot Snitzel also won this race under its previous moniker in 2012 before going on to Group 1 glory later in his career.

Elsewhere on Saturday, it simply wasn’t to be for REVOLUTIONARY MISS, who unfortunately didn’t enjoy much luck in running in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes.

She lost absolutely nothing in defeat and has given her owners a terrific thrill in her first preparation, winning the Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude, finishing second in the Group 1 Blue Diamond and then going on to compete in the world’s richest 2YO race – Not to mention the $524,400 in prizemoney she accumulated along the way from just five starts!

She will now head for a well-earned holiday in the paddock and we cannot wait to see what she can do as a 3YO in the Spring.

The Stakes race action continues on Saturday, with our Group 3 winner Exoboom returning in the Star Kingdom Stakes at Rosehill Gardens. Exoboom will be joined by promising juvenile To His Credit, who is set to tackle the Group 3 Schweppervescence.
