Merchant Lady Scores

Triple Crown runner, Merchant Lady made a statement on debut at Gosford last preparation when coming from near last to breeze past her rivals for an impressive winning debut. She then ran a nice placing at Canterbury before going out for a well earned spell.

The 3yo chestnut daughter of Merchant Navy returned for her second racing preparation on Saturday at Newcastle. Under the guidance of Mitchell Bell, she was again back in the small field, this time over 1200m and being tested for the first time in Heavy 10 conditions. She again showed her class to scoot through to the lead before a two horse battle with Candy Woman ensued with Merchant Lady coming out on top to score her second win from just three career starts.

“It was a good gutsy effort” said Mitchell Bell afterwards. “She didn’t really handle the heavy track so it was a really good effort.”

Triple Crown’s Chris Ward said “Merchant Lady is an exciting young filly. Obviously it is early days in her career but she couldn’t have started too much better. She has a really strong turn-of-foot which we didn’t get to see so much today. She had to relay on her tenacity and determined attitude. I’d suggest we look to a metropolitan race for her next and hopefully it’s a dry deck. I’m sure she will keep raising the bar further.

Congratulations to jockey Mitchell Bell, trainers Peter & Paul Snowden and especially to our owners: Triple Crown Syndications., Mr M A Power, KevMonk Racing, Mr J Hunt, Mr C Raymond, Mr B F Rippingale, Mr A G Cid, Ms Y Gibson, Mr T Zdravkovski, Mr R W S Woo, Mr G W Byrne, Mr U Perera, Mr S H Carmichael, Mr C L Cohen, Mrs J M Cohen, Healey Bloodstock, Chippy and Bricky , Ms J E Robertson, Mr A D Pank.
