Military Zone an Up And Coming talent

FLYING Randwick winner Military Zone takes the step up to Stakes level on Saturday when he goes for glory in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes at Head-quarters.

A scintillating winner last time out in the three-year-old Handicap over 1200m when roaring home from the rear of the field, Military Zone has earned his step up  to Group 3 company and faces 9 rivals over the 1300m trip.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden said Military is up for the challenge. “I know it’s because of his Group placings but with 58.5kg, Spin couldn’t beat my other horse (Military Zone) with 53kg I wouldn’t think,” Snowden said to Racenet.

“I wouldn’t say he’s underrated, everyone could see what he did the other day and with 53 kilos he’s going to run really well,” he said.

“He just stepped back when the barriers opened, I thought he’d be up outside the lead, but he overcome difficulties and I think his sectionals were very good, nearly the best of the day, so he showed the sort of talent he has.

“He’s a winner. He’s a nice horse, I don’t mind him.

“I’m quietly confident he will run very, very well again on Saturday.”

Elsewhere on the card Onslaught goes in the BenchMark 89 Handicap over 1400m as he looks to bounce back to winning form once more.

The Saturday action continues in Melbourne where Brave Song backs up after his superb 3rd in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap to take on the Listed Regal Roller Stakes over 1200m.
