Military Zone up for Guineas battle

TRIPLE CROWN SYNDICATIONS will be looking to put the gloss on what’s been a sensational 2018 when Military Zone heads into battle for the Gosford Guineas at the Central Coast’s feature race meeting on Friday.

A total of six individual Stakes winners have been forthcoming for Triple Crown during 2018, and Military Zone will be seeking to make that seven when he takes on the Listed contest over 1200m.

The Red silks went so close to taking the last edition of the race, as Island Missile went down by the narrowest of margins when storming home from the rear of the field in January this year, and Military Zone will look to unleash a similar turn of foot in his bid to go one better.

The son of Epaulette was purchased by Chris and Michael Ward of Triple Crown for $140,000 from the Inglis Premier Sale in 2017, and currently holds a record of two wins from five starts. The three-year-old returned this preparation with a fourth place finish at Randwick over 1100m on December 15 and steps up to 1200m with James McDonald taking the reins.

Military Zone takes on ten rivals, with trainer Peter Snowden was optimistic of a good performance from his charge.

“It’s a solid race with two or three good hopes in there,” said Snowden. “I’m very happy with the horse and his last piece of work was very good.

“He’s been great through the week and come on really well since that first run. We’ll need a little bit of luck in running as you always do, but he’s going there in good form.”
