Missile Magic pulls the rabbit out of the hat

The mercurial MISSILE MAGIC proved a cut above his rivals in a commanding victory at Hawkesbury on Tuesday.

Having pulled a new trick out of the hat when veering markedly left at his last start, the son of Smart Missile went straight as an arrow this time around, quickening smartly in the straight to score by two lengths in convincing fashion.

Missile Magic broke well and settled just worse than midfield under Adrian Layt, who asked the three-year-old to improve his position rounding the home turn. He responded generously, showing a smart turn of foot at the 400-metre mark before galloping through the line strongly for a soft win.

Winning rider Adrian Layt said: “That was much improved. He popped his head down, began well, came back under me and then finished off really good.

“It’s hard to say if you want to go any further with him because he seemed to be better at the 1100 where he had his head, no one annoyed him and he just did his thing and ran away.

“Coming back in trip has really helped him and he was a lot better behaved today too. He wasn’t as stirry as he was the other day and hopefully he’s on the right track now.”

A delighted Peter Snowden added: “It was good to see him put his head down and finally do the right thing today. He did everything perfectly all day and it makes a difference when all the ducks line up!

“He’s starting to come the right way and if he keeps doing what he did today he’s going to go a fair bit further.

“It was a good class Maiden there today and he didn’t just win, he beat them comfortably.

“I’m so so pleased for all the owners and it was great to see him do that today.”

Congratulations to Adrian, Snowden Racing and all his owners on a superb win. Hopefully the first of many!
