Misteed too good in impressive Canterbury win

MISTEED overcame a slow start and a wet track to impressively break her maiden status at Canterbury on Wednesday.

The two-year-old filly missed the kick and dropped out last of the nine-runner field, but mustered quickly under Kerrin McEvoy to make ground on the rail.

Although preferring a sounder surface, the daughter of Exceed And Excel travelled well through the wet conditions, and showed good improvement in pushing her way into the clear off the fence, before kicking clear of the gallant Ljungberg to win by a head over the 1100m race, with the pair pulling three lengths ahead of the field.

Unfortunate not to break her maiden in her first preparation when caught for room on this very same track, Misteed showed she had learnt from experience in showing a desire to move into the clear before proving herself to be far too good for her rivals.
