One to Watch – Canberra

By Tara Madgwick

Sent out a short priced favourite in the opening event at Canberra on Black Opal day, Hucklebuck’s half-brother is a maiden no more.

Three year-old Northern Meteor colt Courtza King improved on a very unlucky debut second at Canterbury last month, taking out the 1200 metre maiden by half a length for the Peter and Paul Snowden stable with James McDonald in the saddle.

Courtza King was a $66,000 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale purchase for Triple Crown Syndications from the Lustre Lodge draft and made a big team of owners very happy with his first win!

Courtza King is a half-brother to Group I VRC Emirates Stakes winner Hucklebuck and is the second winner for O’Reilly mare Kondari, a half-sister to stakes-winners Kalamata and Kirvinsky.

Kondari has a colt foal by Mossman and was covered last year by All Too Hard.
