Peggy Jean heads Group 2 Kewney Stakes field
Heading the field of 16 three-year-old fillies set to tackle the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington this Saturday is Triple Crown Syndications’ Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Peggy Jean (Myboycharlie ex Lady of Love).
The Gerald Ryan trained filly traveled down to Melbourne last night after working that way of going during the past week and pleasing both Ryan and Brenton Avdulla with her efforts. With the addition of blinkers to her race day gear, and an in form Hugh Bowman booked to ride on Saturday, the team is confident of a strong showing from the Peggy Jean they all know and love.
Last Autumn as a 2yo the striking daughter of Myboycharlie (IRE) enjoyed a close up 2nd placing in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) and victory in the $1m Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) during The Championships series (providing Myboycharlie with his first Group 1 winner).
Now as an Autumn 3yo, she resumed in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m), with an impressive fast finishing and close-up 4th place, before a luckless run in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) on February 28.
Triple Crown have enjoyed success in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes previously with Flying Snitzel (Snitzel ex Hula Flight (NZ)) taking out the honours with a vivacious run in 2013.
Many of Peggy Jean’s owners head south of the border for the race this weekend, to add ‘Super Saturday’ at Flemington to the host of Australian Racing’s elite racedays their star filly has taken them to. Look out for them in the mounting yard; they will be the army in red.
Best of luck to all connections!
