Post Racing Life

The love of the horse is central to what draws us all to this great industry.

After racing, ensuring the welfare of our horses becomes paramount for Triple Crown and our owners. Beyond the race track, these magnificent animals deserve a dignified retirement and a good forever home. We are very fortunate that our owners understand the ethical responsibility to care for their horses post-racing, emphasizing the importance of finding suitable environments where the horses can thrive physically and mentally in the next chapter of their lives. Win, lose or draw, our horses have given so much to us during their race careers and we want to see them flourish in their post-racing life. As such, at the end of any syndicate some horses are suitable to be sold into either a breeding career or to race in a weaker environment, whilst some are simply looking for a good forever home where they will be well cared for. This is an area that we at Triple Crown and our owners are passionate about and work very hard to ensure. We love seeing these retired racehorses re-trained for other disciplines, such as dressage, show jumping or even therapeutic riding.

“We love our horses and their welfare is paramount in every step we take, whether that’s whilst racing or for their post racing life.” Triple Crown Director, Sam Manion

Below is a short segment from Caroline Searcy’s popular Thoroughbreds Are Go program that aired this week, featuring former Triple Crown runner Dothraki. Dothraki was a magnificent racehorse for his owners, commencing his career as an early 2yo before winning 8 races and over $1.6m in prizemoney before retiring from the racetrack as a 9yo. He was a “champion” on the racetrack whilst competing in all the carnivals through Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and he was a real gentleman off the track. He has the most beautiful character and was adored by everyone who had anything to do with him. At the end of his career our syndicate of owners generously gifted him to his strapper Ella Yarrow (see her reaction at the time in the video further below). It is wonderful to see how Dothraki is loving life and staying active with Ella and Sandra.
