Ranges on target at Newcastle

Triple Crown’s ultra-consistent four-year-old RANGES dug deep to fend off the challenge of a talented rival at Newcastle on Saturday, bringing up his third career victory in the process.

The son of Shooting To Win was given a peach of a ride by Alysha Collett, who angled him out at the top of the straight and drove him through the line for a richly deserved success.

Ranges has missed a place on just two occasions from his past 13 starts, and both of those unplaced efforts came on either the first or final run of his preparation!

“That was a very, very tough win – he carried a lot of weight there,” said winning jockey Alysha Collett in her post-race debrief.

“Us and the second horse were left alone in front and were sitting ducks for something to come and swamp us late, but the two of them were just too tough.

“There was a really hot tempo on early and I didn’t want to panic too much. I gave him a chance to switch off and relax and it’s the first time he’s ever done that for me in a race, which I’m really happy about.

“He really deserved that win and going forward he’s going to tough another one out.”

Saturday’s win took Ranges’ career earnings past the $100,000 mark and hopefully there is plenty more to come from one of the most honest horses in the Triple Crown stable.

Congratulations to all the team at Snowden Racing and all his owners on another terrific win!
