Redzel draws six in bid for back-to-back Doomben 10,000 wins
REDZEL will face 13 rivals as he bids to claim the Doomben 10,000 for the second consecutive year after drawing barrier 6 for the Group 1 contest.
In what was a breakout victory 12 months ago with his first Group 1 triumph, the five-year-old then embarked on an unbeaten Spring campaign, winning the inaugural running of The Everest and the Group 1 Darley Classic at Flemington.
Redzel will take on one familiar face from last year’s feature in the shape of In Her Time who finished 5th in 2017, and has drawn outside the dual Group 1 winner in 8 for this year’s renewal.
The son of Snitzel completed his last piece of trackwork on Tuesday, with co-trainer Peter Snowden happy with his preparations for the race.
“He went really well in his last piece of fast work on Tuesday,” said Snowden. “He was nice and bright and Kerrin said he felt terrific.
“It’s always a tough task at this top level and hopefully we get a bit of luck but I couldn’t be happier with how he is.
“The draw gives us options. As we’ve seen he doesn’t have to lead but from barrier 6 we can assess our options. He looks magnificent and he’s travelling up there in fantastic order.”
