Redzel enters record books as Australia’s highest earning sprinter

REDZEL has become Australia’s highest earning sprinter in history after surpassing the prizemoney haul of the recently retired Chautauqua.

Redzel’s career earnings of $8,823,000 sees him now lie in fifth on the all-time leading Australian prizemoney earners, ahead of Black Caviar, So You Think and Chautauqua, and just over $500,000 short of nine-time Group 1 winner Northerly.

Top Australian prizemoney earners

Winx                   $19,582,424
Makybe Diva     $14,526,690
Sunline               $11,351,610
Northerly           $9,341,850
Redzel              $8,823,000
Chautauqua       $8,821,935
So You Think     $8,813,497
Black Caviar       $7,953,936

That figure sees a return of more than 70 times his purchase price of $120,000 at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale in January 2014.

Victories in the Group 1 Darley Classic and Group 1 Doomben 10,000 as well as success in the inaugural running of The Everest propelled Redzel into being recognized as the leading sprinter in Australia during a fruitful 2017-18 season which saw him named as Champion Sprinter.

Should Redzel win back-to-back Everest titles, the $6 million winner’s cheque will see him jump to second on the all-time list of earners, behind only supermare Winx.

Redzel will bid to defend his Everest title on October 13 at Royal Randwick.
