Redzel into outright favouritism for Everest repeat

TRIPLE CROWN’S Redzel has taken outright favouritism for The Everest, with race sponsors TAB going $6.50 that Redzel can repeat last year’s heroics in the world’s richest race on turf.

Australia’s highest earning sprinter sits ahead of Shoals who is on the second line of betting at $7, with last year’s runner-up Vega Magic on $7.50, alongside early favourite for this year’s edition, Trapeze Artist.

The defending Champion has taken notable improvement from his last start run in the Premiere Stakes on September 29, with co-trainer Peter Snowden delighted with the finishing touches to Redzel’s preparations.

“I’ve been really impressed with how he’s come on since the Premiere,” said Snowden. “He bounced out of that race and worked really well in his final gallops this week. He’s ready, I’ve never had him better.

“His coat has come out and he’s very well in himself. He looks immaculate.”

Redzel drew the inside barrier for the 1200m event at Royal Randwick, and Snowden said he was pleased given how the race might pan out.

“It’s better than drawing outside,” added Snowden. “He needs to jump well but he’s normally very quick out the barriers, it’s a good asset of his.

“We’ll see how the race works out, but Barrier 1 should get us a good run in a forward position. He’ll handle the wet, he’s very versatile like that so the rain doesn’t bother us. From my eye he’s going just as well as last year and fingers crossed he’ll be thereabouts again this year.”
