Redzel named NSW Sprinter of the Year
TRIPLE CROWN’S Everest winning star Redzel capped a sensational year by being named NSW Sprinter of the Year at Racing NSW’s Night of Champions award ceremony on Thursday at Royal Randwick.
The now six-year-old scored won five of his eight starts during the 2017-18 season, winning the prestigious Group 1 Darley Classic down the Flemington straight, as well as setting track records over the 1000m and 1100m, when winning the Group 2 Challenge Stakes in March, and the Group 2 The Shorts in September last year.
Those successes added to his sensational win in the inaugural running of The Everest in October, in which he collected a $5.8 Million winners’ cheque, and announced himself as the most feared sprinter in the world.
That win combined with his superb run of form throughout the season, saw the son of Snitzel break into the top ten Australian prizemoney earners in history, with his haul of $8,726,750 seeing him lie in seventh.
One of the most consistent sprinters over the last season and more, Redzel has finished in the top 2 in 12 of his last 13 runs.
Congratulations to his owners, and thanks to Snowden Racing who have presented the horse superbly each and every time this season, with this coveted award deservedly adding further to Redzel’s reputation as one of the greatest sprinters in the country!
