Redzel ready for the Challenge at his beloved Randwick

The Triple Crown team are hoping for a case of deja vu on Saturday as leading light Redzel bids to emulate his 2018 success in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Randwick.

The dual Everest winner posted a superb first-up effort to finish runner-up in the Group 1 Lighting Stakes last month and he will again face high profile rival Nature Strip in Saturday’s select field of eight. With multiple Group 1 winner Santa Ana Lane also set to line up, Redzel will need to be at his best to regain the title he won in 2018 and came within a nostril of retaining last year, when he was narrowly denied by Ball Of Muscle (who also re-opposes on Saturday).

The rain which has fallen this week will certainly help his chances and he has an enviable record over Randwick’s 1000m track, recording 4 wins and 2 seconds from 6 starts – all of which have come at Group level!

Peter & Paul Snowden are delighted with how he has been since his run at Flemington and it’s all systems go for Saturday. Regular partner Kerrin McEvoy will again be aboard and there should be no excuses from barrier 2.
