Show stopper – Redzel’s trial win a sign of things to come
By Shayne O’Cass
There was a three-year-old that looked every bit like a $40m colt at the Randwick heats on Friday and it’s wasn’t VANCOUVER, it was (Triple Crown Syndications colt) REDZEL.
Formerly with Gerald Ryan and now with Team Snowden, Redzel was absolutely unbelievable winning his heat and threw his name out there and the one to challenge the likes of Vancouver and Headwater as the three-year-olds to watch in the new season.
The son of Sniztel and Golden Slipper placed Millrich ran the best final 150m of any horse you could name in a trial in Sydney for years – that’s right, for years.
A horse that we haven’t heard from yet but soon will is the Snowden’s HIGH SPIRIT, a three-year-old son of High Chaparral out of a sister to Alinghi that finished fifth in his heat and has looked the goods in his three others dating back to early December last year.
SOLAR GIRL, an unraced Lonhro first foal of Solar Charged, was runner-up in her trial, but again, what we saw her do in an Apr 13 trial here marks here as stakes-class and soon.
Overreach’s sister FALKENBERG was very good and has come back in great nick, (Triple Crown Syndications filly) SECRET TRAIL was fantastic, NANCY as pretty good as was ARTISTRY, while PRINCEFAMOUS just bolted the whole way to win without turning a hair.
Golden Slipper winner VANCOUVER rallied to win his heat but under duress, though we have to quickly acknowledge he is a champion in blinkers and a midweeker without them.
Wait for the gear change on race day before being seeing the real ‘him’.
