“Joining a syndicate seemed the obvious choice for me to make my first foray into ownership, given the relatively small amount I was prepared to outlay. Having spoken to a number of syndication companies, I called Triple Crown and spoke with Michael Ward.
What I found most refreshing in my initial conversations with Michael was the frankness, openness and honesty. I explained this was my first purchase and was looking for guidance. He set out the process they follow in selecting a horse at the sales and importantly for me, the risks in the business, the patience required and also the fun that can be had with the right attitude.
I decided to purchase a 10% share in a Myboycharlie-Maritime colt, subsequently to be registered as Charlie Boy. Charlie has already won two races, including a Group 2, has raced admirably in four group Ones (including a Golden Slipper and Caulfield Guineas) and won us over $300,000 in prizemoney. Not bad for my first horse!
As a married man with four young children, we have all had a great experience travelling to many different courses (Randwick, Flemington, Rosehill & Caulfield) to follow “Our Boy”. Many of our family and friends have also joined the “Charlie Boy ride” which makes it even more enjoyable.
All the way throughout Charlie’s career, Mike, Chris and their team have kept us fully informed with progress, where he is heading, how he is training etc. They have also provided fantastic advice and planning regarding Charlie’s career.
The fun and thrills we have had with Charlie is irreplaceable and for that we will always thank Mike and Chris at Triple Crown for providing us with this unforgettable experience.
The BOBS bonus earned from Charlie has been reinvested in a 2yo filly with Triple Crown. So horse number two is now in pre-training. Another Charlie? Maybe? Whatever happens, I can guarantee my family and I will again have a lot of fun.”
